In most application cases so-called triple storage racks are used as an intermediate storage for fast-fill fuel stations and consist of three individual partial storage tanks: the top, middle and bottom rack.

These racks house a different number of pressure containers which however are assembled together in one rack.

Thanks to this division, as opposed to an arrangement of the cylinders in rows (1 rack system) a higher degree of exploitation and thus a larger available gas quantity can be attained for vehicle refuelling directly in succession.

Through the difference between storage pressure (290 bar) in the triple rack storage system and the empty vehicle tank, the gas flows in the vehicle tank during refuelling due to the drop in pressure. The maximum permissible vehicle filling pressure is 200 bar related to 15 °C ambient temperature.

Depending on the customer-specific requirements different storage tanks are available. Of course if necessary these can be designed as two rack or one rack storage systems.

Depending on the number of vehicles to be filled directly in succession in peak operation the size of the storage tank is determined.

For a vehicle with 160l geometric tank capacity a gas volume of approx. 36 m3 results for a vehicle refuelling. Compared with the gas quantity available from the triple rack storage system the number of vehicles to be filled directly in succession can easily be determined or the necessary size of the tank of the triple rack storage system can be determined from the vehicles to be filled.

Depending on the installation location type and location a selection can be made between enclosure in a weather-proof steel plate housing or an open version for installation in an existing enclosure. Additionally extended storage tanks with concrete enclosure are also available for ex-protection zones, in particular in the inner-city area
